Mary King Needlework

Little is known about Mary King, the creator of this needlework, except that she lived in Philadelphia and married a man from Minnesota. The piece seen here, was made with silk yarns on a silk moiré ground fabric depicting the Tree of Life in 1754. It is assumed that imported Indian fabrics were her inspiration. Mary was very skilled and probably taught needlework.
