Cacao Shell Tea


Martha Washington enjoyed drinking cacao shell tea, which she made from roasted shells and sipped at breakfast. She was not alone. Many of her contemporaries enjoyed and experienced cacao shell tea as they would traditional tea.

Drink as a tea or add to your favorite coffee. Love a little chocolate in your coffee but not the added sugar?

Cacao-Coffee Blend Recipe

2 1/2 tables spoons whole coffee beans
1 teaspoon of Cacao Shell Tea

Bring 3 cups of water to a boil. Place coffee beans into grinder and pulse until roughly ground, add cacao shell tea and pulse briefly to mix.

Place coffee and cacao blend into french press and pour boiling water over contents slowly, then stir. Let steep for 8 minutes and enjoy. For extra creaminess, add a splash of unsweetened almond milk or creamer of your choice.
