Inspired by an 1819 classical-revival klismos armchair, this sofa ottoman features easy to clean cushions that are constructed from an all-fiber core with multiple layers of densified fiber. Each cushion has a sewn-in mesh bottom that promotes water drainage and air flow, allowing for quick drying times. The upholstery is tailored with box welted seats and box welted back cushions.

The frame is made from high quality aluminum and finished with a black lightly textured powder coat finish. This ottoman is specifically designed and manufactured to withstand the elements. Imported.

Using the rich history and extensive archives of the estate, Winterthur and Lane Venture teamed up to create modern designs that are adapted for today's home. Architectural details from Winterthur doors, trellises, fences and archives were the inspirations for these dramatic designs.

One remarkable example in the Winterthur collection is an early 19th-century klismos armchair in the classical-revival style. It is likely the only surviving chair of forty-eight made by Thomas Constantine of New York in 1819 for the Senate Chamber of the U.S. Capitol.

Constantine based the design of the chair on illustration 59 in Thomas Hope's London publication Household Furniture and Interior Decorations (1807). Hope was a wealthy English collector and art patron whose travels to Greece and Egypt influenced the classical motifs found in his designs.
