The Winterthur house was built in 1839 by H. F.'s great-aunt Evalina and her husband, Jacques Antoine Bidermann. They recognized the agricultural possibility of the land and by 1850 had constructed a barn near the residence.

Later generations added a coach house, including carriage rooms, sheds and storage areas. With the advent of the automobile in the early 20th century, the coach house was converted into a garage with rooms above for visiting chauffeurs and Winterthur staff. The 1930's garage door from the loft area of the original barn section harkens back to the era of solid construction with practical yet artistic design elements, seen here in the geometric repetition of square windows.
